What is abdominoplasty?
Abdominoplasty is a body surgical procedure designed to improve the contour of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat and strengthening the abdominal muscles, especially when this area shows sagging, bulging, or loss of firmness after pregnancies, weight changes, or the passage of time.
This intervention allows for the recovery of a firmer and flatter abdomen, improves the body silhouette, and provides a more harmonious and rejuvenated appearance, achieving a natural and proportionate result without losing the body shape unique to each patient.
Types of abdominoplasty
Complete abdominoplasty
Indicated for patients with significant excess skin and muscle laxity. It corrects the entire abdomen, from below the chest to the pubis, repositioning the navel and reinforcing the abdominal wall.

Mini abdominoplasty
Recommended when excess skin and laxity are concentrated in the lower part of the abdomen. It is a less invasive surgery, with faster recovery and usually without the need to move the navel.

Abdominoplasty with liposuction
Combines the removal of excess skin with liposuction to improve the overall contour of the abdomen and waist, achieving a more streamlined and defined result.

What is the process of abdominal cosmetic surgery?
The abdominoplasty begins with a horizontal incision just above the pubic hair through which the surgeon releases the skin and fatty tissue from the abdominal wall. Once the rectus abdominis muscles are exposed, internal sutures are applied to tighten the musculature (correcting diastasis), excess hanging skin is removed, and in many cases, a small additional incision is made to reposition the navel. Finally, the remaining skin is stretched downward to achieve a flat and firm abdomen, closing the wound with fine sutures and placing a compression garment to control swelling during recovery.

What is the price of abdominoplasty at IdB?
The indicative price of abdominoplasty at the Instituto de Benito starts at €7,000 and can vary depending on various clinical factors that determine the final cost of the intervention.
Are you suitable for an abdominal surgery?
Abdominoplasty is indicated for individuals who wish to improve the contour of the abdomen, eliminate excess skin, and regain muscle firmness in a lasting way, when these results cannot be achieved solely with diet, exercise, or non-surgical treatments.
It is especially suitable if:
- 01
Excess skin after pregnancy or weight loss
When the abdomen shows significant sagging that cannot be corrected with exercise or aesthetic treatments.
- 02
Bulging abdomen due to muscle diastasis
If the abdominal muscles are separated and cause a prominent belly even in thin individuals.
- 03
Sagging and loss of abdominal firmness
When the skin has lost elasticity and the abdomen appears saggy or droopy.
- 04
Difficulty in defining the abdomen
If, despite leading a healthy lifestyle, you cannot improve the abdominal contour.
- 05
Desire for a lasting change
If you are looking for a real and stable improvement in the shape of the abdomen and your body silhouette.
- 06
Physical or aesthetic discomfort
When excess skin causes discomfort when dressing, moving, or performing daily activities.

Frequently asked questions about abdominoplasty/em>
What results can I expect?
A flatter, firmer abdomen with a more defined and harmonious contour. The result begins to be noticeable in a few weeks, but the final result is consolidated between 3 and 6 months, when the tissues have fully adapted and the swelling has disappeared.
Does abdominoplasty hurt a lot?
The discomfort is usually mild or moderate and well controlled with medication. Thanks to advanced protocols like Synapta®, recovery is often much more comfortable than usual. Most patients resume a fairly normal life in 10–14 days.
Can I get pregnant again afterwards?
Yes, but it is not recommended if you want to maintain the result. A new pregnancy can stretch the skin and abdominal muscles again.
What are the risks of an abdominoplasty?
Abdominoplasty is a safe procedure when performed in specialized centers and by accredited surgeons, but like any surgery, it involves potential risks that must be clearly understood.
At the Instituto de Benito, safety is a priority and all procedures are carried out under strict medical protocols and control, minimizing complications.
Most common risks (and generally mild)
- Temporary swelling and discomfort: normal in the first few days; gradually decreases.
- Hematoma or bleeding: accumulation of blood under the skin; usually resolves with drainage or medical control.
- Seroma: fluid accumulation that can be reabsorbed or easily drained.
- Feeling of tightness or numbness: usually temporary.
- Small asymmetries or irregularities: may appear during the healing process.
Uncommon risks
- Postoperative infection: very rare thanks to preventive measures.
- Delayed healing or opening of stitches.
- Reaction to anesthesia or surgical materials.
- Scarring issues: thickening or more visible scar than expected.
Is the result permanent?
The scar is located in the lower part of the abdomen, in an area that is hidden by underwear or a bikini. Over time it becomes lighter and progressively less noticeable.
Can I combine abdominoplasty with other treatments?
Yes. It is very common to combine it with liposuction or other body surgeries, always after a personalized medical evaluation.
What happens if I gain or lose weight afterwards?
Moderate weight changes do not usually alter the result. Maintaining a stable weight helps preserve the result for many years.
How long does full recovery take?
Most patients lead a fairly normal life in 10–14 days, but full recovery and the final result are consolidated between 3 and 6 months.
Is the result permanent?
Yes, as long as a healthy lifestyle and stable weight are maintained. The removed skin and muscle tightening do not return to their previous state.
Can a tummy tuck be financed?
Yes, in our case we offer different financing options to facilitate access to a tummy tuck. We can split the payment up to 12 months interest-free, as well as propose broader financing options up to 60 months, tailored to each patient.
