The lip lift is a surgery that elevates the upper lip, visually shortening it. Over the years, the upper lip descends due to maxillary reduction, lengthening; a hidden incision is made at the nasal base (following the nostrils and columella), at least one third of excess skin is resected and sutured to elevate from the center to the corners. It is performed with local anesthesia or combined with a facelift. Advanced technique (Weston): additional resection at the corners for greater horizontality when outlining.
Types of lip lift
Subnasal Lip Lift (Bullhorn)
It is the most commonly used. It is performed just below the nose and allows shortening the distance between the nose and the lip, lifting the upper lip and improving the exposure of the teeth with a very natural result.
Corner Lip Lift
Indicated to lift the corners of the mouth when they tend to droop downwards, providing a more cheerful, relaxed, and rejuvenated expression.
Central or Direct Lip Lift
Focuses on lifting the central part of the upper lip, improving the definition of the cupid's bow and the shape of the lip, with a more localized and precise effect.
What does an upper lip lift involve at IdB?
The lip lift involves making a small incision at the base of the nose, right in the crease where the nostrils meet the face, to remove a strip of excess skin in the shape of "bullhorns." Once that segment is removed, the surgeon lifts the tissue of the upper lip and attaches it to the nasal base with deep and external sutures, shortening the distance between the nose and the mouth and exposing more of the vermilion (the red part of the lip). The result is an upper lip with more volume, a smile that shows more of the upper teeth, and a permanently rejuvenated appearance without the need for fillers.
