What is lipolytics - lipolytic therapy?

Lipolytic therapy is the injection of active ingredients lipolytic (combinations that aid in the controlled breakdown and mobilisation of adipocytes in areas with localised fat) resistant to diet and exercise.

Areas we treat

Face and neck:

This is one of the most treated areas because it improves the facial profile without surgery, especially in the double chin and jawline contour.

Rostro y cuello

Abdomen and flanks:

Highly sought after to reduce resistant localised fat, helping to define the silhouette and improve body contour.

Abdomen y flancos:

Legs and buttocks:

Indicated for treating accumulations such as saddlebags or inner thighs, refining and harmonising the shape of the legs.

piernas y glúteos

Arms and back:

Allows improvement in areas with localised fat such as arms or back folds, achieving a firmer and more streamlined appearance.

Brazos y espalda:

Medical evidence and support

The lipolytic active ingredients used are authorised by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) and recognised by the Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SEME) as a medical treatment for localised fat in selected patients (non-obese). The clinical indication is accumulations resistant to diet and exercise, not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. Published studies show a reduction in the volume of the treated area by 15-30% upon completing the full plan.

What does the lipolytic / lipolytic therapy treatment consist of?

The treatment is carried out entirely in the medical consultation of the Instituto de Benito in Barcelona or Madrid, in an outpatient session designed and always performed by a registered aesthetic doctor. It consists of the following steps:

01

Personalised medical assessment:

valoracion personalizada

Before the treatment, an assessment is carried out with the aesthetic doctor of the Instituto de Benito. They study your case, listen to your objectives, rule out contraindications and design a personalised plan. The first aesthetic medical visit has a cost of €50 (deductible from the first treatment).

02

Preparation for the treatment:

preparación intervencion

The preparation is simple: the area must be clean and free of creams. The doctor will advise if it is advisable to avoid any medication (anticoagulants, NSAIDs) in the days prior to minimise bruising, and discuss with you any relevant circumstances for your safety.

03

Application of the treatment in consultation

Poniendose hilos tensores

The doctor disinfects the area, applies topical anaesthesia if necessary and performs the microinjections with very fine needles or cannula, following the designed plan. The session is carried out entirely in consultation and the patient resumes their routine immediately.

04

Start looking how you want to feel:

verte como quieres sentirte

The results appear within the expected timeframe for the treatment, with a natural and harmonious finish. The doctor provides you with home care instructions and schedules follow-up appointments.

Pre and post-treatment of lipolytics / lipolytic therapy

Before the treatment

Arrive with the area of the body to be treated clean, without creams or self-tanners. Avoid NSAIDs in the days prior. Wear comfortable clothing. Pre-treatment hydration optimises tissue response.

Pre and post-treatment of lipolytics / lipolytic therapy

After the treatment

Mild inflammation, sensitivity and possible bruising for 3-7 days (more visible in the treated areas). Drinking 2 litres of water/day +/- detox supplementation and walking 30 minutes daily enhance the effect. Avoid sauna, jacuzzi and intense exercise for 24 hours. Visible reduction appears from the 3rd session.

Additional specific instructions: Mild inflammation, sensitivity or occasional bruising that subsides in 3-7 days.

Who is NOT suitable: contraindications of lipolytic therapy

Patient safety comes before any aesthetic result. Lipolytic therapy should not be performed —or should be postponed— in the following cases:

ContraindicationReason
Pregnancy and breastfeedingThere are not enough safety studies on the foetus or infant.
Coagulation disorders or anticoagulantsHigh risk of extensive bruising or bleeding.
Active infection in the areaFolliculitis, herpes, infected eczema: risk of spread.
Active autoimmune diseasesLupus, scleroderma, dermatomyositis: unpredictable tissue response.
ImmunosuppressionActive oncological treatment, uncontrolled HIV, transplant recipients.
Known allergy to the productAnaphylactic risk.
Tendency to keloidsScarring risk.
Under 18 years oldUnless very specific medical prescription.
Severe venous insufficiency or lymphoedemaEvaluate before starting.
Recent significant weight variationsWait for stabilisation.

Risks and possible side effects of lipolytics

Lipolytics are a safe treatment when performed by a registered doctor in an authorised centre and with approved medical products. Even so, every medical procedure has a profile of possible effects that it is honest to share with you.

How Instituto de Benito minimises these risks: 100% registered medical team, single-use instruments, products with medical CE and batch traceability, asepsis protocols, dedicated aesthetic medicine room and personalised follow-up between sessions. We never delegate the procedure to non-medical staff.

If after a session you experience intense pain, fever, marked local heat, suppuration or nodules that do not subside in 7-10 days, contact the clinic immediately.

Expected and mild reactions (most self-limit in 24-72 h):

 • Papules or small wheals at the injection points, which subside in minutes or hours
 • Localized redness (erythema) of the area
 • Mild bruising (more common in thin skin or if taking anticoagulants/NSAIDs)
 • Sensitivity or slight local discomfort
 • Mild swelling for 24-72 h

Less frequent effects:

 • Mild asymmetries
 • Hypersensitivity or itching that subsides in a few days
 • Transient post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if the area is exposed to the sun
 • In rare cases: nodules or product irregularities

Uncommon complications (preventable with rigorous medical practice):

 • Local or systemic allergic reactions
 • Delayed granulomas due to reaction to the product
 • In vascular areas: accidental vascular occlusion (extremely rare, manageable if detected in time)
 • In cases of malpractice or professional intrusion: infections, persistent nodules, lipodystrophy or scarring

Commitment to the Instituto de Benito

Lipolytics are medical injectables that act on localised fat and are therefore only administered by an aesthetic doctor after careful evaluation of each case.

At the Instituto de Benito, patient safety takes precedence over any aesthetic goal. We work with audited clinical protocols, medical CE-marked health products and batch traceability, single-use instruments, dedicated aesthetic medicine rooms and personalised follow-up between sessions. We never delegate a medical-aesthetic procedure to non-medical staff.

Frequently asked questions about lipolytics

What is lipolytic therapy?

Medical injection of active ingredients that help break down and mobilise adipocytes in areas with localised fat resistant to diet and exercise.

In how many sessions are results seen?

Volume reduction is visible from the 3rd session. The usual protocol is 4-6 sessions depending on the area.

Is it the same as liposuction?

No. Liposuction is surgery and removes fat with a cannula. Lipolytic therapy is a medical treatment that helps mobilise fat in resistant areas, without surgery and without downtime.

How soon are results visible?

Visible volume reduction from the 3rd session. Consolidated result upon completing 4-6 sessions. SEME indicates that completing the full plan is key: stopping halfway yields very poor results.

Does it work on any area of the body?

It works best on small to medium accumulations: lower abdomen, saddlebags, inner thighs, lower back, arms, double chin. For very large accumulations, the recommendation is liposuction, not lipolytic therapy.

Can it be combined with diet or exercise?

Yes, we recommend it. The effectiveness improves when combined with lifestyle changes. Without diet and exercise, the result may quickly reverse if previous habits return. The SEME emphasises this point.

How much does the complete treatment cost?

IdB Session €200. 6-session package €1,200 (15% discount). The complete plan also includes an initial assessment (€50, deductible). The doctor provides a fixed quote after the assessment.
