Before surgery, complete preoperative tests (blood tests, electrocardiogram) are performed and specific instructions are given, such as fasting and the suspension of certain medications or tobacco. This stage ensures that the patient arrives at the operating room in optimal health conditions.
The surgery lasts between 2 and 4 hours. The piezotome (ultrasound) is used to file the bone cleanly and safely. At the end, a thermoplastic external splint is placed to protect the new shape, but at IDB no nasal plugs are used, allowing the patient to breathe through the nose from the first moment after leaving the operating room.

Contrary to popular belief, rhinoplasty is not a painful surgery, but rather uncomfortable due to congestion. By not using nasal packing at IDB, we eliminate the most annoying and painful step of the postoperative period: the removal of the packing. The patient feels a sensation similar to a common cold, but can breathe through the nose from the first day, which reduces discomfort and improves rest.
Although the change in profile is evident from the moment we remove the splint after 7 days, the definitive result requires patience. Most of the swelling disappears in the first month, but the nasal tip, which is the area most worked on in feminization, can take between 6 and 12 months to show its final and refined shape.
Like any surgical intervention, there are general risks such as infection, bleeding, or reaction to anesthesia, although at the Instituto de Benito they are minimized with maximum safety protocols. Specific risks may include small asymmetries, irregularities on the dorsum, or slow healing at the tip.
