What is tear trough filler?
Tear trough filler is a non-surgical aesthetic medicine treatment that uses hyaluronic acid to improve hollowness, discoloration and skin quality in the under-eye area, adding radiance and a more rested appearance while always respecting facial harmony.
The aim is not to change your facial expression, but to rejuvenate the eye area, soften a tired appearance and improve the transition between the eyelid and the cheek, for a natural, balanced result suited to each patient.
Types of dark circles, and what works for each one
Hollow dark circles (tear trough)
This is a volume problem: the groove under the eye becomes noticeable because support is lacking, and the shadow is cast by the hollow itself. It is the only type of dark circle that hyaluronic acid filler corrects directly, and the one that responds best.
Sometimes the groove shows because it is the cheekbone that has lost support. In those cases we consider treating the cheekbone first: filling the under-eye area alone does not resolve the shadow.
Pigmented dark circles
The eyelid skin has more melanin and looks brown, not hollow. This is common in darker skin tones and tends to run in families. Filler does not improve it, because the problem is color, not volume.
Here the approach is different: depigmenting treatments, peels specific to the area or pulsed light depending on the case, and consistent sun protection.
Vascular dark circles
They look bluish or purplish because the blood vessels show through very thin skin. They get worse with tiredness, lack of sleep and fluid retention.
Filler can make them worse if it is placed superficially, because the product becomes visible with a grayish tone. That is why the prior consultation measures skin thickness before injecting, and in these cases the plan is usually a different one.
Dark circles caused by eye bags
What you see is not a shadow but a bulge: the fat of the lower eyelid herniates and forms the bag. Filler does not correct it and can accentuate the step.
When the bag is the main cause, the indication is surgical, with a lower blepharoplasty. In consultation we tell one from the other before proposing anything.

Cannula technique

Who is not a candidate: contraindications for dark circle treatment
