The "barcode" are the small vertical lines that appear above the upper lip with age or due to habits like smoking. It is treated by combining a medical procedule at low doses and, when necessary, microinjections of low-density hyaluronic acid to fill the lines and rehydrate the area.
Perioral lines are a consequence of the aging of the orbicular muscle and the thinning of the upper lip, aggravated by smoking and sun exposure. The Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV) describes the condition as one of the most characteristic signs of facial aging. The combined medical-aesthetic approach is validated by the Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SEME) as a first-line non-surgical treatment.
The treatment is carried out entirely in the medical office of the Instituto de Benito in Barcelona or Madrid, in an outpatient session always designed and supervised by a licensed aesthetic doctor. It consists of the following steps:
Before the treatment, an assessment is carried out with the aesthetic doctor of the Instituto de Benito. They study your case, listen to your objectives, rule out contraindications, and design a personalized plan. The first aesthetic medical visit costs €50 (deductible from the first treatment).
The preparation is simple: the area must be clean and free of creams. The doctor will advise if it is advisable to avoid any medication (anticoagulants, NSAIDs) in the days prior to minimize bruising, and discuss any relevant circumstances for your safety.
The doctor disinfects the area, applies topical anesthesia if necessary, and performs the microinjections with very fine needles, following the designed plan. The session is carried out entirely in consultation and the patient resumes their routine immediately.
The results appear within the expected timeframe for the treatment, with a natural and harmonious finish. The doctor provides you with home care instructions and schedules follow-up appointments.

The final price depends on the area or areas to be treated, the product or cocktail used, and the number of sessions the doctor recommends after evaluation. The first aesthetic medical visit costs 50 € (deductible from the first treatment). We offer financing for prolonged treatments and packages.
Barcode (perioral lines) is indicated for people in good general health who meet any of these profiles. Final suitability is confirmed by the doctor after a personalized evaluation.

Patient safety takes precedence over any aesthetic outcome. Barcode (perioral lines) should not be performed or should be postponed in the following cases:

Barcode (perioral lines) is a safe treatment when performed by a licensed doctor in an authorized center and with approved medical products. Even so, every medical procedure has a profile of possible effects that it is honest to share with you.

The combination of a medical neuromodulator at low doses + low-density hyaluronic acid is the standard. In advanced cases, it is complemented with chemical peeling.

A lot. Smoking accelerates the appearance and deepening of barcode lines due to the combination of repeated movement when smoking and the effects of tobacco on collagen. If you smoke, the doctor will inform you, and the result will be more limited and shorter-lasting than in non-smoking patients.
Partially. Preventive measures include: not smoking, daily facial photoprotection, constant hydration of the perioral area with active ingredients (hyaluronic acid, retinoids), and periodic mesotherapy or facial bio-revitalization from the age of 30-35.
When there is very marked texture or if the patient wants to intervene more deeply: specific chemical peel (€150) renews the superficial layer and improves the quality of the skin of the upper lip, complementing the effect of the filler and the neuromodulator.
Visible from the first week, optimal at 2 weeks. Duration: 8-12 months depending on product and technique. The patient notices improvement from the mirror the first weekend, before the result is fully settled.
