What is the platelet-rich plasma treatment?

PRP or platelet-rich plasma is a procedure that uses autologous blood from the patient. After a minimal extraction, the sample is processed by centrifugation to obtain a fraction with a higher concentration of platelets. Subsequently, this fraction can be administered, under medical criteria, in areas such as the face, neck, décolletage, hands, or scalp.

This treatment aims to promote the physiological processes of tissue regeneration. The results may vary according to the individual characteristics of each patient and should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional.

What does the platelet-rich plasma treatment consist of?

The treatment is carried out entirely in the medical consultation of the Instituto de Benito in Barcelona or Madrid, in an outpatient session always designed and performed by a registered aesthetic doctor. It consists of the following steps:

01

Personalised medical assessment:

valoracion personalizada

Before the treatment, an assessment is carried out with the aesthetic doctor of the Instituto de Benito. They study your case, listen to your objectives, rule out contraindications, and design a personalised plan. The first aesthetic medical visit costs €50 (deductible from the first treatment).

02

Advanced skin analysis with NESAI:

ecografia

A technology based on high-resolution medical ultrasound that allows an in-depth study of the skin and tissues.

03

Preparation of the treatment:

preparación intervencion

The preparation is simple: the area must be clean and free of creams. The doctor will advise if it is advisable to avoid any medication (anticoagulants, NSAIDs) in the days prior to minimise bruising, and discuss any relevant circumstances for your safety.

04

Application of the treatment in consultation

Poniendose hilos tensores

A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, centrifuged to obtain platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and applied through microinjections in the area to be treated. It is an outpatient procedure that allows you to resume your routine immediately.

05

Start looking how you want to feel

The results appear within the timeframe planned for the treatment. The doctor provides you with home care instructions and schedules follow-up appointments.

Pre and post-treatment of platelet-rich plasma

Before the treatment

Arrive well-hydrated and having had breakfast: the blood extraction is minimal but it is advisable not to do it on an empty stomach. Avoid NSAIDs in the days prior (they affect platelet function). Do not consume alcohol 24 hours before.

Pre and post-treatment of platelet-rich plasma

After the treatment

Redness or slight swelling for 24-48 hours. If the application is facial, avoid makeup for the first 4 hours; if it is capillary, do not wash your hair for 24 hours. Avoid intense exercise for 24 hours, as well as saunas and swimming pools. The session combines extraction + centrifugation + application, allow for 45-60 minutes.

Commitment to facial aesthetic medicine

PRP is one of the medical treatments with the most accumulated clinical evidence, which is why we apply it with standardised centrifugation protocols and certified platform.

At the Instituto de Benito, patient safety comes before any aesthetic objective. We work with audited clinical protocols, medical CE-marked health products and batch traceability, single-use instruments, dedicated aesthetic medicine rooms, and personalised follow-up between sessions. We never delegate a medical-aesthetic procedure to non-medical personnel.

Medical evidence and support

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has authorisation for autologous use by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) and appears in multiple international clinical guidelines for skin and hair regeneration. The Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SEME) and the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV) recognise it as the treatment of choice for androgenetic alopecia as a complement to pharmacological treatments, and as a skin regeneration treatment with documented scientific support in indexed journals.

Frequently asked questions about PRP

What is PRP?

It is a regenerative medicine treatment using your own blood. Platelet-rich plasma and its growth factors are concentrated and reinjected into the area to be treated.

What is PRP used for?

To improve the quality and firmness of the skin, reduce acne scars, treat dark circles, and slow down hair loss or improve its density

How much does PRP cost?

€350 standard session. €250 small area. We also offer a PRP + dutasteride pack for alopecia. Locations in Barcelona and Madrid.

Is it safe to inject my own plasma?

Yes. It is one of the safest medical treatments because it uses your own body, without exogenous products. Minimal risk of reaction.

How much does the PRP + dutasteride pack cost?

6 combined sessions: €1,890. It is one of the most effective protocols for androgenetic alopecia.

What is PRP really used for?

For 3 main indications: 1) skin regeneration (face, neck, décolletage, hands); 2) treatment of acne scars and sequelae; 3) slowing down hair loss in androgenetic alopecia. The growth factors in your own plasma stimulate tissue regeneration.

Is PRP the same in any clinic?

No. The quality of PRP depends on: 1) the extraction tube and centrifugation platform used; 2) the platelet concentration achieved; 3) the application technique. The SEME recommends using platforms with CE medical marking and traceability.

Difference between PRP and hair mesotherapy with dutasteride?

Hair PRP: uses your own plasma, not drugs. Stimulates growth through growth factors. Dutasteride for hair: anti-androgenic drug that slows the conversion of testosterone to DHT. The combined IdB pack (PRP + dutasteride 6 sessions, €1,890) is one of the most effective protocols for androgenetic alopecia.

In what percentage of patients does hair PRP work?

Studies reviewed by the AEDV report visible improvement in 70-80% of patients with initial or moderate androgenetic alopecia after 3-4 sessions. Results are lower in advanced or non-androgenetic alopecia, where the indication is different.

Is it safe to inject my own plasma?

Yes. It is one of the safest medical treatments because it uses your own body, without exogenous products. Minimal risk of allergic or infectious reaction. The SEME considers it one of the safest in the medical-aesthetic catalogue.
