What is Arm Lift (brachioplasty)?

The arm lift or brachioplasty is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the inner arms, correct sagging, and restore a firmer, more streamlined, and proportionate contour.

It is especially indicated when, due to significant weight loss, aging, or body changes, the skin loses elasticity and hangs, creating an aged or unharmonious appearance. The goal is to improve the shape of the arm, tighten the skin, and restore a younger and firmer appearance, with a natural result that matches each person's anatomy.

Types of arm lift

Mini or limited arm lift

Indicated for mild cases of sagging. The incision is shorter and located in the armpit, and is used when there is little excess skin. It allows for improved firmness with a more discreet scar.

Lifting de brazos mini o limitado

Complete arm lift

This is the most common. It is indicated when there is significant sagging and excess skin along the entire inner arm. It allows for a complete redefinition of the arm contour, with a notable improvement in firmness and shape.

Lifting de brazos completo

Arm lift with liposuction

Combines the removal of localized fat with the resection of excess skin. It is indicated when, in addition to sagging, there are fat deposits that alter the shape of the arm.

What is the process of the arm lift?

The process begins with an incision on the inner or back side of the arm (which may be limited to the armpit or extend to the elbow depending on the excess skin) so that the surgeon can surgically remove the excess skin tissue and localized fat. After tightening the deep fascia to restore muscle firmness, the remaining skin is stretched and meticulously sutured to redefine the triceps contour, finishing with a compressive bandage that helps the tissues adhere to their new position during healing.

Pre and postoperative in brachioplasty

Before surgery

Before performing a brachioplasty, a personalized medical assessment is essential to study your case, analyze the degree of flaccidity, skin quality, and define the most appropriate technique to achieve a harmonious and safe result.

In this phase, the following is done:

  • Complete medical history and physical examination
  • Necessary preoperative medical tests
  • Study of excess skin and fat in the arms
  • Planning the type of arm lift (mini, complete, or with liposuction)
  • Guidelines on medication, smoking, diet, and habits before surgery

You will also receive all the necessary recommendations to approach the intervention with maximum safety and peace of mind.

Pre and postoperative in brachioplasty

After surgery

After brachioplasty, a period of progressive recovery begins in which:

  • It is normal to experience swelling, tightness, and some discomfort during the first few days
  • You will need to wear a compression garment on the arms for the time indicated by the surgeon
  • Medication will be prescribed to control discomfort and promote healing
  • Medical check-ups will allow monitoring the correct progress of the process
  • Returning to daily activities will be gradual according to medical criteria

Thanks to advanced protocols like the Synapta® Method, the postoperative period is usually much more comfortable and manageable, with a notable reduction in pain and swelling.

Are you suitable for a brachioplasty treatment?

Brachioplasty is indicated for individuals who wish to eliminate sagging and excess skin on the arms, achieving a firmer, more streamlined, and proportionate contour when these changes cannot be corrected with exercise, diet, or non-surgical treatments.

It is a treatment aimed not only at improving the appearance of the arms but also at restoring firmness, proportion, and harmony to the upper body, achieving a natural, balanced result in accordance with each person's anatomy.

It is especially suitable if:

  • 01

You have lost a lot of weight

And you have excess sagging skin on the arms that does not retract naturally.

  • 02

You notice sagging on the inner side of the arms

When the skin has lost elasticity due to the passage of time or body changes.

  • 03

The shape of your arms makes you uncomfortable when dressing

If you avoid short-sleeved or sleeveless clothing due to insecurity about the appearance of your arms.

  • 04

You have good overall health and stable weight

Brachioplasty offers better results in people with stable weight and realistic expectations.

  • 05

You want a definitive and lasting result

When you are looking for a real and stable surgical solution for arm sagging.

  • 06

You seek an aesthetic and functional improvement

Not only to look better, but to feel more comfortable with your body and movements.

Frequently asked questions about brachioplasty

What results can I expect?

Firmer, more streamlined arms with a much more defined contour. The excess skin disappears and the shape of the arm becomes more proportionate. The final result is consolidated between 3 and 6 months, when the swelling has subsided and the tissues have fully adapted.

Does the arm lift hurt a lot?

Discomfort is usually mild or moderate and is well controlled with prescribed medication. Thanks to advanced protocols like Synapta®, recovery is much more comfortable than usual.

Will there be visible scars?

Brachioplasty does leave a scar, but it is strategically placed on the inner side of the arm to be as discreet as possible. Over time, the scar progressively improves.

What are the risks of a brachioplasty?

It is a safe procedure when performed in specialized centers and by accredited surgeons, but like any surgery, it involves some potential risks.

At the Instituto de Benito, safety is a priority and all procedures are carried out under strict medical protocols.

Most common risks (and generally mild)

  • Swelling and bruising: normal during the first few weeks.
  • Pain or a feeling of tightness or pressure: temporary and controllable with medication.
  • Seroma: fluid accumulation that can be reabsorbed or easily drained.
  • Temporary changes in sensitivity.
  • Small contour irregularities during the tissue adaptation phase.

Less common risks

  • Postoperative infection.
  • Delayed healing or opening of small stitches.
  • Adverse reaction to anesthesia.
  • More pronounced asymmetries or the need for touch-ups in specific cases.

How long do the results last?

The results are very long-lasting as long as a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle are maintained. The removed skin does not reappear.

When can I exercise or sunbathe?

  • Light activity: from 10–15 days.
  • Intense exercise: after 4–6 weeks.
  • Sun: should be avoided on the scar for several months or use high sun protection.

Can I combine arm lift with other surgeries?

Yes. It can be combined with liposculpture, abdominoplasty, or other body surgeries, always under medical evaluation.

What happens if I lose or gain weight afterwards?

Moderate weight changes do not usually significantly alter the result. Maintaining a stable weight helps preserve the effect of the surgery.

How long does full recovery take?

Most patients can lead a fairly normal life in 10–15 days, although full recovery and scar maturation continue for several months. The final result is assessed around 3–6 months.
