In Barcelona, breast implant removal is performed by Dr. Marina García Moya, a plastic surgeon who has focused on the breast for more than thirty years (medical license no. 19091). The implants are removed permanently, usually together with the capsule the body has formed around them, and the breast is often lifted or filled with your own fat in the same operation.
She sees you at our Av. Diagonal, 490 practice and operates at Clínica Diagonal, in Esplugues de Llobregat; an overnight stay is not usually needed. The price starts at €6,000 (VAT not included) and, in Barcelona, includes the Synapta protocol.
To book an appointment, call 932 53 02 82 (phone and WhatsApp). The first consultation costs €80 and the video consultation €50; both are deducted if you go ahead with surgery.
Dr. Marina García Moya. She handles the first consultation, the explant surgery and the follow-up herself, without passing your case on to anyone else.
She graduated from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1982, completed her residency in Plastic Surgery at Vall d'Hebron between 1983 and 1987, and has been part of Dr. Javier de Benito's team for more than three decades. She has performed more than 5,500 breast procedures, including secondary surgery, meaning surgery on a breast that has already been operated on. S Moda (El País) has consulted her as an expert on implant removal.
Her full CV is on Dr. García's profile.
The implants are removed and, if it is thickened, calcified or contracted, or if the implant has ruptured, the capsule is removed too (capsulectomy). When there is a rupture with silicone leakage, the implant and capsule are taken out in a single piece, which is called the en bloc technique. Depending on your skin and the tissue you still have, the surgery ends there or a breast lift (mastopexy), fat transfer with your own fat, or both are added.
Recovery is usually easier than after a breast augmentation. The most characteristic issue is seroma, that is, fluid that collects in the space left by the implant, and it usually resolves on its own or with a needle aspiration at the clinic. You will find all the details on the breast explant surgery page.
From €6,000 (VAT not included). Implant removal alone and removal with a lift and fat transfer are different surgeries, with different operating times and prices. At the end of the consultation we give you a fixed quote that will not change.
If you have surgery in Barcelona, the quote includes the Synapta protocol. You can finance it at 0% for up to 12 months or spread it over up to 48 months (financing).
We see you on Diagonal; we operate in Esplugues.
Consultation, wound care and check-ups. If needed, we ask for an ultrasound or an MRI to check the condition of the implant and the capsule.
Carrer de Sant Mateu, 24-26, Esplugues de Llobregat, with a qualified anesthesiologist. You normally go home the same day; bring someone with you.
The only time you leave the city is on the day of surgery.
Dr. García examines your implants (type, placement plane and age), your skin elasticity, the breast tissue you still have and the position of the areola. From age 35-40 we ask for a recent mammogram. We show you honestly how your breasts may look. It costs €80, which is deductible.
Pre-operative tests, stopping smoking at least four weeks beforehand and fasting on the day of surgery. If you are considering fat transfer, we assess which area to take the fat from.
At Clínica Diagonal, under general anesthesia. If drains are placed, they are removed after 3-5 days.
Wound care and check-ups at Av. Diagonal 490. Wire-free bra for 4 to 6 weeks. Social life after 2-4 days, office work after a week and high-impact sport from the sixth week. The final shape shows between 3 and 6 months.
Carmen had had the same implants for 26 years, and they had become encapsulated. Dr. García removed them and treated the capsule, and Carmen tells her story in her real case. The main page also shows before and after photos of Zara, 52, from Barcelona, following her explant surgery. Every breast responds differently: the photos give you an idea, not a promise.
You can have your first consultation by video call with Dr. García for €50, deductible if you have surgery. She will advise you on whether removal alone is enough or whether a lift or fat transfer would be advisable, and give you a quote. An in-person examination is necessary before surgery.
The days in Barcelona, in-person visits, accommodation and surgery date are decided with you after that first consultation. Travel and accommodation are at your own expense. If you are coming from another country, our international unit can help you.
