The insecurity Claudia Chacón left behind: what she had surgery for

Claudia Chacón has had otoplasty at Instituto de Benito Madrid to correct her prominent ears. She was operated on by Dr. Lucrecia Villanueva: the scar is hidden behind the ear, and from there the cartilage is shaped so the ears sit closer to the head.

Claudia Chacón has had her ears operated on. She had otoplasty in Madrid at Instituto de Benito with Dr. Lucrecia Villanueva to correct prominent ears, that is, ears that stick out from the head more than usual. The scar is hidden behind the ear, and from there the cartilage is shaped so the ears sit closer to the head. The surgery can be done under local anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation, and the patient chooses which she prefers.

Anyone who has watched her on La isla de las tentaciones (the Spanish Temptation Island) or Supervivientes may have noticed that she almost never wears her hair up. That was no coincidence. Her ears had bothered her since she was a child, and she had wanted surgery for a long time.

Why did Claudia Chacón have ear surgery?

Because she did not feel comfortable with any hairstyle. Claudia loves wearing a ponytail, but she did not dare, because her ears showed, both on set and in the street. Wearing her hair down did not help either: her hair parted and her ears peeked through.

Dr. Villanueva sums it up: «Claudia told us she was not happy when she wore a ponytail because she noticed her ears stuck out. Even with her hair down, it parted and they showed through. This made her insecure; she had to keep an eye on her hair all the time, and in every situation it was one more thing that would not let her relax».

While filming La isla de las tentaciones she used adhesives that hold the ear against the head. In the heat they came unstuck, sometimes in the middle of filming, and she had to step away to put them back on.

What did we suggest at the consultation?

Otoplasty. «We suggested a procedure done under local anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation. Patients can choose», the surgeon explains. «The scar is hidden at the back of the ear, and from there we can shape the cartilage so the ears sit closer to the head and these situations do not happen again».

What is corrected is the shape of the cartilage, which is what makes the ear stick out. That is why the change does not depend on her hairstyle or on any adhesive: the ear stays in place.

Is the otoplasty scar visible?

Not at a glance. The incision is made in the fold behind the ear, an area covered by the ear itself. Claudia can wear a ponytail or a bun without it showing, which is exactly what she wanted.

If you want to know what recovery is like, how long the procedure takes or what results to expect, we explain it in detail on our otoplasty page.

How is Claudia after surgery?

Delighted with the result. It was an operation she had been putting off for years, and she has finally taken the step.

Claudia had received offers from other clinics to have surgery for free in exchange for content. She chose to pay for her consultation like any other patient. At Instituto de Benito, the surgeon who saw her at the first consultation is the same one who operated on her and who handles her follow-up visits.
