What is capillary dutasteride?

Capillary dutasteride is an antiandrogenic drug used medically that, when applied to the scalp (capillary mesotherapy) or taken orally as prescribed by a doctor, slows hair loss in androgenetic alopecia by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to DHT, the main cause of follicle miniaturization.

Medical evidence and support

Dutasteride is an antiandrogenic drug authorized by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia and, off-label, for androgenetic alopecia. The Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV) and the Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SEME) recognize its use in capillary mesotherapy as a complement to oral treatments or as an alternative when these are not tolerated. Comparative studies show efficacy equivalent to or greater than oral finasteride.

What does the capillary dutasteride treatment consist of?

The treatment is carried out entirely in the medical office of the Instituto de Benito in Barcelona or Madrid, in an outpatient session always designed and supervised by a licensed aesthetic doctor. It consists of the following steps:

01

Personalized medical assessment:

valoracion personalizada

The doctor evaluates the type and pattern of hair loss, rules out hormonal or nutritional causes, and, if appropriate, recommends a genetic test for androgenetic alopecia. First visit €50.

02

Treatment Preparation

pelo limpio en la primera visita

The scalp should be clean. No gel, no hairspray, no styling products. The doctor selects the personalized cocktail suitable for your type of alopecia.

03

Application of treatment in consultation

aplicacion mesoterapia capilar

The doctor performs microinjections on the scalp with a very fine needle, following the treatment pattern. The session is well tolerated.

04

Start looking the way you want to feel

Results are built session by session: first, hair loss is stopped, then density improves, and finally, hair thickness. The doctor plans the necessary periodic maintenance.

Pre and post-treatment of capillary dutasteride

Before the treatment

Come with a clean scalp, without gel, hairspray, or styling products. It is not necessary to wash the hair just before, it can be the day before. Inform the doctor of any oral medication, especially if you are taking finasteride or minoxidil.

Pre and post-treatment of capillary dutasteride

After the treatment

Localized sensitivity on the scalp for a few hours. Do not wash your hair for 12-24 hours. Avoid tight caps or helmets for the first few hours. Hair loss stops at 8-12 weeks; density improvement is visible from the 3rd-6th month.

Additional specific indications: Localized sensitivity on the scalp. Immediate normal life.

Our medical group

An aesthetic doctor from the IdB team confirms the diagnosis of androgenetic alopecia (with the help of genetic testing if necessary) before starting dutasteride.

Commitment to facial aesthetic medicine

Capillary dutasteride is a drug that requires medical prescription and follow-up, not a cosmetic; at IdB it is prescribed only for confirmed androgenetic alopecia.

At the Instituto de Benito, patient safety comes before any aesthetic goal. We work with audited clinical protocols, medical CE-marked health products and batch traceability, single-use instruments, dedicated aesthetic medicine rooms, and personalized follow-up between sessions. We never delegate a medical-aesthetic procedure to non-medical personnel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is capillary dutasteride?

It is a medical antiandrogenic drug that slows hair loss in androgenetic alopecia by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to DHT, responsible for follicle miniaturization.

When are results visible?

The slowing of hair loss is visible at 8-12 weeks. Improvement in density and thickness is noticeable from the 3rd-6th month.

How much does it cost?

Session 170 €. Pack of 6 sessions 800 €. PRP + dutasteride pack 6 sessions 1,890 €. Optional prior genetic test 250 €. Locations in Barcelona and Madrid.

When do I see results?

Hair loss stops at 8-12 weeks. Improvement in density and thickness begins to be seen from the 3rd-6th month.

Is it forever?

Continuity is needed to maintain the result. If discontinued, hair loss may reappear.

Difference between topical dutasteride and oral finasteride?

Both are antiandrogenic. Finasteride: oral, inhibits the conversion of testosterone to DHT only through the type 2 5-alpha-reductase enzyme. Dutasteride: inhibits both enzymes (type 1 and 2), making it more potent. Topical application (mesotherapy) reduces systemic exposure compared to the oral route.

How soon are results seen?

Hair loss stops at 8-12 weeks. Improvement in density and thickness from the 3rd-6th month. The AEDV indicates that in androgenetic alopecia the treatment must be sustained: if discontinued, hair loss may reappear in the following 6-12 months.

Is it safe for women?

In women of childbearing age without adequate contraception, it is contraindicated due to teratogenic risk. In selected women (perimenopause, menopause, confirmed contraception), it can be prescribed with specific medical evaluation.

Difference between dutasteride only pack and PRP + dutasteride pack?

Dutasteride only: 6 sessions 800 €. Antiandrogenic pharmacological action. PRP + dutasteride: 6 sessions 1,890 €. Combines antiandrogenic action with growth factors from the patient's own plasma. The combined pack has better documented results according to SEME, especially in moderate androgenetic alopecia.

Is the genetic test mandatory before starting?

No, but it is highly recommended, it rules out other causes of hair loss and allows for a more precise prognosis. SEME indicates that in doubtful cases the genetic test is the most reliable diagnostic tool.
