Liposuction cost: from €4,500 and what affects the price
At Instituto de Benito, body liposuction costs from €4,500 (VAT not included). The price covers the team's fees, anesthesia, the operating room and hospital stay, pre-op tests and follow-up visits. The final figure depends on how many areas are treated and how large they are, the technique and the time in the operating room, and you receive it as a fixed written quote after your consultation with the surgeon who will operate.

This article covers body liposuction: abdomen, flanks, thighs, back or arms. Double chin liposuction is a different procedure, with its own page and a price from €3,200 (VAT not included).

What are you paying for with liposuction?
Liposuction removes stubborn fat that does not shift with diet or exercise. It is done with fine cannulas through small incisions, under general anesthetic, and takes between two and four hours depending on the areas. Only fat outside the abdominal cavity is treated: the fat around the organs cannot be removed surgically.
It is intended for people at a stable weight who want to change their body contour. If the aim is to lose weight, liposuction is not the right treatment, and we say so at the consultation.
The surgery takes place in an operating room, with continuous monitoring and a qualified anesthesiologist. In Barcelona we operate at Clínica Diagonal and in Madrid at Hospital San Francisco de Asís. If the liposuction is small, you go home the same day. If a large volume is treated, you would normally stay one night in the hospital to receive pain relief, antibiotics and heparin, and leave the next day in good shape.
What is included in the quote and what is not?
What is included
- Specialist surgeon's fees
- Fees for the rest of the medical team
- Materials specified in the quote
- Operating room and hospital stay (same-day discharge or one night in the hospital, depending on the volume treated)
- Anesthesia
- Stay in a private room if needed
- Medication during your hospital stay
- Wound care with the nursing team
- Follow-up visits with the specialist
- Pre-op tests (blood tests, ECG, X-ray, etc.)
Follow-up visits always take place at the same clinic and with the surgeon who operated. They are concentrated in the first few weeks and then spaced out until the contour has settled. In Barcelona the price also includes a session of the Synapta® protocol, which the clinic uses to ease tightness in the treated areas during the first few days.
What is not included
- Assessments or clearance from other specialists, if needed
- Medication after you leave the hospital
- Post-surgical garments (compression garments, bands, etc.), unless specified
- Additional recovery treatments (lymphatic drainage, physiotherapy, laser, etc.)
- Costs arising from medical complications not attributable to the surgery itself
- Further operations or touch-up surgery not planned at the outset
- Unplanned additional hospital stays
- Travel, accommodation or meals for the patient and companions
- Medical leave forms, certificates or additional paperwork
- Any material or procedure not expressly specified in the quote
Two points on this list are worth checking before you compare quotes. A compression garment is essential after liposuction and is not included in the price unless the quote says so. And areas that were not in the original quote are not included either: if the abdomen and flanks are agreed at the consultation, that is the price, and adding the thighs means a new quote.

Why does one liposuction cost more than another?
What moves the figure most is how many areas are treated and how large they are. In women the most common are the thighs, the abdomen after pregnancy and the arms. In men, the abdomen and flanks. We do not publish prices per area: the quote is based on the full plan, because two small areas and one large one do not cost the same even though they add up to three.
Volume changes the time in the operating room and the hospital stay. Liposuction of the saddlebags can be done as a day case and lets you get back to training within a few days. Extensive liposuction usually requires a night in the hospital, and normal life resumes after two or three weeks.
The technique matters too. The basis is cannula liposuction, and depending on the area and the quality of the skin, technologies that help the skin tighten can be added. Combining liposuction with another operation at the same time, such as a tummy tuck or a fat transfer, also changes the quote.
The first consultation and financing
The first consultation costs €80, which is deducted from the cost of surgery if you go ahead. If you cannot come in, it can be done by video call with the surgeon who would operate on you, for €50, which is also deducted. The surgeon who assesses you is the same one who operates and follows you up afterwards. You leave the consultation with a fixed written quote.
Liposuction can be financed over up to 48 months, with 12 months interest-free. Financing is available from €1,000 to €21,000, and the account holder can be the patient or a family member.
The price is similar in Barcelona and Madrid. In Barcelona the surgeons are Dr. Orestes Fernández and Dr. Víctor Cabrera Mas, and in Madrid, Dr. Antonio Martínez Murillo.
Frequently asked questions about the cost of liposuction
Liposuction, liposculpture or HD liposuction?
All three remove localized fat, but each aims for a different result, and the starting price is not the same.
Liposuction reduces volume in specific areas where fat does not respond to diet. It starts at €4,500 (VAT not included).
Our post on the types of liposuction goes into each technique in detail.
How much does liposculpture cost?
Liposculpture removes fat and redistributes some of it to improve the shape and proportions of the body. It also starts at €4,500 (VAT not included). In practice they are two parts of the same procedure: liposuction removes the excess and liposculpture reshapes what is left.
How much does HD liposuction cost?
HD liposuction (high-definition liposuction) removes fat from a more superficial layer to bring out muscle definition, and is done with VASER. It starts at €6,500 (VAT not included). It is a demanding technique: it suits people who already watch their diet and train, with good muscle tone and elastic skin. That is why at the consultation we look at body fat percentage and muscle mass before suggesting it.
What if the problem is loose skin?
Then liposuction alone is not enough. When the skin is very lax, removing the fat can make the excess skin more noticeable, and the result is disappointing. In those cases we consider combining liposuction with a technique that removes skin, or replacing it with one.
On the abdomen that technique is the tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), which removes excess skin and fat and strengthens the abdominal wall. It starts at €7,000 (VAT not included). The decision is based on examining the skin, not on the price.
How long does the result last?
The fat that is removed does not come back to those areas. If you later put on a lot of weight, fat can build up in other parts of the body. Moderate changes in weight do not usually alter the result much.
The result starts to show within a few weeks. The final result comes between three and six months, once the swelling has gone. Most people return to work after five to seven days, and after extensive liposuction exercise is resumed gradually from six weeks.
