How much does breast augmentation cost? Prices and what a quote includes in 2026
In Spain, the price of breast augmentation usually ranges from €5,000 to €10,000. That range is not just about the implant: it depends on the technique, the center where the surgery takes place, the type of anesthesia and, above all, which items each quote covers. Two offers with the same figure can include very different things. That is why, rather than asking how much breast surgery costs, the useful question is what is included in the price and what is left out. This article explains the ranges seen in the Spanish market, the items any serious quote should cover and the checks worth making before you decide.

How much does breast augmentation cost in Spain in 2026?
There is no official, up-to-date statistic on the price of breast augmentation in Spain. SECPRE (the Spanish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery) has published activity data for years, but not fees. Its most recent report, La realidad de la Cirugía Estética en España (The Reality of Cosmetic Surgery in Spain), presented in September 2023 with data from 2021, counts 204,510 cosmetic surgery procedures in the country and ranks breast surgery as the most performed, with 52.6% of the total, led by augmentation with implants at 27.6%. It does not include prices.
The last average cost attributable to SECPRE dates from 2013 and put breast augmentation at €5,335, breast lift at €5,257, breast reduction at €5,777 and augmentation with lift at €6,197. It is old data and only useful as a historical reference.
The ranges used today therefore come from the fees that clinics themselves publish, not from an institutional source. With that caveat, the usual range in private Spanish centers goes from just under €5,000 to more than €10,000. In Barcelona and Madrid it tends to sit in the middle and upper bands, because both cities are home to a large share of the country's most experienced plastic surgeons.
That range corresponds to a primary breast augmentation, meaning a patient having surgery for the first time who is a candidate for a simple augmentation with implants. It does not apply to a breast lift (mastopexy) with implants, tuberous breasts, an implant replacement or reconstructive surgery.
When an offer falls well below that range, it is not usually because someone has found a way to do the same thing for less. It is because there are items outside the quote, or because the procedure is planned under conditions different from those of a major surgery operating room in an authorized center. The figure on its own does not let you compare. What lets you compare is the breakdown.
*The 2013 data come from the ranking of average cost by type of operation, sourced from SECPRE, published in November 2014 and available on Statista. The percentages and the total number of procedures come from the SECPRE press release of September 11, 2023.

Why the price varies so much between clinics
A breast augmentation quote is not the price of an implant. It covers a complete medical procedure, and these are the factors that affect it most:
- The implant selected. The manufacturer, the range, the dimensions, the type of gel and the surface all change the cost. A more expensive implant is not automatically the most suitable one for a specific anatomy.
- The technique and the placement plane. They change the operating room time and the materials needed.
- The complexity of the case. Asymmetries, limited tissue coverage or previous surgeries may require different planning and more surgical time.
- The center and the anesthesia. A major surgery operating room in an authorized center, with a qualified anesthesiologist and post-anesthesia recovery, has a cost that a less equipped facility does not bear.
- The tests and follow-up included. This is the biggest source of difference between apparently identical quotes, and the hardest to spot if you do not ask for the breakdown.
What a breast augmentation quote should include
These are the items a complete quote should cover. It is the list we use at Instituto de Benito and it works as a reference for reviewing any other:
- Specialist physician's fees
- Fees for the rest of the medical team
- Materials specified in the quote, implants included
- Operating room and hospitalization
- Anesthesia
- Private room stay if required
- Medication during the hospital stay
- Wound care with the nursing team
- Follow-up visits with the specialist
If any of these points does not appear in writing, it is worth asking specifically whether it is included or billed separately.

What is usually left out and worth asking about
This is the part that is almost never published and the one that creates the most differences when comparing two offers. In our case, the quote does not cover:
- Preoperative tests (blood tests, ECG, X-ray, etc.), unless expressly indicated
- Assessments or clearances from other specialists, if needed
- Medication after hospital discharge
- Post-surgical garments (compression garments, bras, bands, etc.), unless specified
- Complementary recovery treatments (lymphatic drainage, physiotherapy, laser, etc.)
- Costs arising from medical complications not attributable to the surgical procedure
- Reoperations or touch-up surgeries not initially planned
- Additional unplanned hospital stays
- Travel, accommodation or meals for the patient and companions
- Sick leave, certificates or additional administrative paperwork
- Any material or procedure not expressly specified in the quote
Publishing the exclusions does not make surgery more expensive, it makes it comparable. If a patient needs an additional test, garment or treatment that was not planned, they should know before taking on that cost.
Six checks before accepting a quote
A medical quote should let you know who operates, where, with which implant and with what follow-up afterward.
- The surgeon's official qualification. They must be a specialist in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. The Spanish Ministry of Health's State Register of Healthcare Professionals (Registro Estatal de Profesionales Sanitarios) lets you check official qualifications, and the SECPRE search tool lets you find its members.
- Authorized center. The procedure must be performed in an operating room at a center authorized for major surgery, with post-anesthesia recovery facilities.
- A qualified anesthesiologist throughout the procedure. Both general anesthesia and sedation require specialized supervision and continuous monitoring.
- Identified implant and implant card. The quote should state which implant is being placed, and the patient should receive their card. It is worth distinguishing the manufacturer's warranty from the cost of any possible future surgery.
- Inclusions and exclusions in writing. Operating room, anesthesia, implants, tests, hospital stay, follow-up visits, garments and medication should not be left as a verbal promise.
- Follow-up and handling of complications. Ask which follow-up visits are included, who carries them out and how a complication is handled after discharge.
AEMPS (the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices) itself, in its patient information on breast implants, recommends knowing the full cost of consultations and follow-up visits, preoperative assessment, surgery, anesthesia, hospital stay and implants, as well as which items are not included and what a later correction could cost.
When the price of an augmentation does not apply to your case
Searches for "breast surgery" group together very different procedures, with quotes that are not comparable with each other:
- Breast lift (mastopexy) with implants. Lifting and reshaping a sagging breast requires removing skin and planning scars. It is a different surgery. Tuberous breasts and complex asymmetries. They may require reshaping the gland or using different implants on each side.
- Implant replacement or removal. The capsule, a rupture or a malposition change the surgical time and the plan.
- Breast reconstruction. It has its own goals, techniques and planning.
- Combined surgeries. Adding another procedure changes the operating room, anesthesia and safety considerations. It is not calculated by adding two fees together.
The market range is useful as a guide, but it is your anatomy that decides which technique is reasonable in each case, and the figure follows from that decision. At the in-person consultation, the right implant and approach are defined, and you receive a fixed written quote with its inclusions and any possible separate costs.
Instituto de Benito has more than 40 years of experience in plastic surgery, SECPRE and ISAPS accreditation, and centers in Barcelona and Madrid.

Frequently asked questions
Does the breast augmentation quote include the implants?
In a complete quote, yes. The specified materials, including the implants selected for the case, should be included along with the operating room, hospitalization, anesthesia and follow-up visits. If it does not appear in writing, it is worth asking.
How dangerous is breast augmentation?
It is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries and has a well-established safety profile when performed by a qualified plastic surgeon in an authorized center. Like any procedure under general anesthesia, it carries risks that are assessed in the preoperative workup and explained in consultation. The details are on the breast augmentation page.
