Types of buttock augmentation: which is the best option for you?

Buttock augmentation can be done with your own fat (fat transfer), with implants, by combining both or, without surgery, with high-density hyaluronic acid or polylactic acid. If you have enough fat, the first choice is your own fat.

The technique depends mainly on two things: how much fat you have to transfer and how much volume you want. Correcting a small asymmetry is not the same as clearly changing your contour.

What types of buttock augmentation are there?

“Buttock augmentation can be done in different ways,” explains Dr. Orestes Fernández, a plastic surgeon specialising in body contouring. These are the options:

  • Fat transfer (your own fat): fat is removed with liposuction from areas such as the abdomen or flanks and injected into the buttocks.
  • Buttock implants: silicone implants that provide the base volume when there is not enough fat.
  • Implants combined with fat: “placing implants and adding fat in other areas to achieve a more complete result.”
  • High-density hyaluronic acid: non-surgical fillers for small volumes and asymmetries.
  • Collagen stimulators, such as polylactic acid: they improve firmness and add some volume gradually.

When is your own fat the right choice?

Whenever there is enough fat. “If the patient has enough fat, the first choice would be to use her own fat,” sums up Dr. Orestes. It has a double advantage: the result feels natural, because it is your own tissue, and the liposuction of the donor area also slims the waist or flanks.

This is what we do in our buttock augmentation with your own fat, from €7,500 (VAT not included). What the price includes is explained in buttock fat transfer price.

What if I do not have enough fat?

Then the options are implants or implants combined with fat: the implant provides the base volume and the fat rounds and softens the contour where needed. We compare both techniques in butt implants vs fat transfer.

What non-surgical options are there?

For small changes there are two alternatives. High-density hyaluronic acid fills specific areas and corrects asymmetries, with a temporary result; we explain how it works in what hyaluronic acid is used for. Collagen stimulators, such as polylactic acid, gradually improve skin firmness.

Exercise also counts: the gluteus maximus responds very well to strength training. We share ideas in how to improve the shape of your buttocks.

Frequently asked questions about buttock augmentation

What is the best option for buttock augmentation?

If you have enough fat, your own fat: the result is natural and the donor area is also contoured. If not, implants or a combination of implants and fat. We decide at your assessment according to your body and what you are looking for.

What is the most effective way to enlarge the buttocks?

For a clear change in volume, surgery: fat transfer or implants. Hyaluronic acid and polylactic acid are useful for touch-ups and to improve firmness, and strength training helps build the muscle.

What are the 4 main buttock shapes?

Four shapes are usually described: round, A-shaped or pear, square and V-shaped. The shape depends on the pelvic bone, the muscle and how fat is distributed, and the augmentation technique is adapted to each one.

What is the most attractive buttock shape?

There is no ideal shape for everyone. What gives a beautiful result is the proportion with the waist and hips and a natural-looking buttock. That is why, at your assessment, we work on the whole contour and not just the volume.

How much does buttock augmentation cost?

Buttock augmentation with your own fat costs from €7,500 (VAT not included). You can have it in Barcelona or Madrid.
